{"id":120,"date":"2010-03-21T23:24:15","date_gmt":"2010-03-22T03:24:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thesounddesign.com\/MIO\/?p=120"},"modified":"2010-03-27T21:42:28","modified_gmt":"2010-03-28T01:42:28","slug":"mio-digital-conversion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesounddesign.com\/MIO\/mio-digital-conversion\/","title":{"rendered":"MIO Digital Conversion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<strong>[Mobile IO Conversion]<\/strong>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>The MIO series uses Asahi Kasei (AKM) converter chips.<\/p>\n<p>The  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asahi-kasei.co.jp\/akm\/en\/product\/ak5383\/ak5383.html\" target=\"_blank\">AKM 5383<\/a> is a 108 kHz 24-bit ADC, used in both the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhlabs.com\/metric_halo\/products\/mio\/uln2\/\" target=\"_blank\">ULN2<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhlabs.com\/metric_halo\/products\/mio\/2882\/\" target=\"_blank\">2882<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asahi-kasei.co.jp\/akm\/en\/product\/ak4393\/ak4393.html\" target=\"_blank\">AKM 4393<\/a> is a 96 kHz 24-bit sigma-delta DAC, used in both th2 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhlabs.com\/metric_halo\/products\/mio\/uln2\/\" target=\"_blank\">ULN2<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhlabs.com\/metric_halo\/products\/mio\/2882\/\" target=\"_blank\">2882<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"ULN8_ADC_ak5394a_f03e.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">AKM 5394<\/a> is a Multi-Bit 192kHz 24-bit sigma-delta ADC used in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhsecure.com\/v5mm\/ULN-8.html\" target=\"_blank\">ULN8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"ULN8_DAC.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">AKM 4395<\/a> is a Multi-Bit 192 kHz 24-bit-sigma-delta DAC used in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhsecure.com\/v5mm\/ULN-8.html\" target=\"_blank\">ULN8<\/a><\/p>\n<p>These are both stereo chips, so the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhlabs.com\/metric_halo\/products\/mio\/uln2\/\" target=\"_blank\">ULN-2<\/a> has one for input and two for output, while the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhlabs.com\/metric_halo\/products\/mio\/2882\/\" target=\"_blank\">2882<\/a> has four of each of them for the main analog I\/O plus an additional DAC for the cans. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhsecure.com\/v5mm\/ULN-8.html\">ULN8<\/a> has 8 of each, plus a DAC for the cans.<\/p>\n<p>depending upon the sample rate, these AKM converters run at 128x oversampling &#8211; which happens to be the same rate as SACD.  The DACs also have an 8x digital filter inside.<\/p>\n<p>SRC in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhlabs.com\/metric_halo\/products\/mio\/2882\/\" target=\"_blank\">2882<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhlabs.com\/metric_halo\/products\/mio\/uln2\/\" target=\"_blank\">ULN-2<\/a> use a <a href=\"SRC_CS8420_F4.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Cirrus Logic CS8420<\/a> Digital Audio Sample Rate Converter which runs at 108 kHz and 24-bit for real-time SRC.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhsecure.com\/v5mm\/ULN-8.html\" target=\"_blank\">ULN8<\/a> uses a Cirruc logic <a href=\"CS8406_F4.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">CS8406-CZZ<\/a> for AES input\/output at 192kHz<\/p>\n<p>There is a 24.57 MHz crystal on the Master Board, which matches the AK4393 clock requirement of 24.576 MHz for 48 kHz @ 512x oversampling and 96 kHz at 256x oversampling.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-[Mobile IO Conversion]&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211; The MIO series uses Asahi Kasei (AKM) converter chips.
